If you’re celebrating Friendsgiving this weekend and were tasked with bringing a side dish, I’ve got just the thing for you: hot honey sweet potatoes. Roasted with butter and brown sugar and then drizzled with a spicy jalapeño-infused honey, these are not your Aunt Rita’s sweet potatoes — and that’s exactly the point.
Friendsgiving is a more relaxed version of Thanksgiving. It’s an excuse to gather with friends and try out some dishes that might not fly at your more traditional Thanksgiving dinner. These sweet potatoes fit the Friendsgiving bill perfectly.
All you have to do is cut the sweet potatoes into large chunks; toss them on a baking sheet with butter, salt, pepper, and brown sugar; and roast until they’re tender and caramelized.
While the potatoes are roasting you can make your hot honey by simmering honey and jalapeño slices (seeds and all!) together on the stovetop. After infusing the honey for about five minutes, you can strain out the pepper and drizzle that spicy-sweet goodness all over the roasted sweet potatoes.
Just be sure to warn your friends before they dig in that these sweet potatoes pack a punch!
