A Look at the What the Tachyon Speed Electric Hypercar Has to Offer
It seems like there are plenty of no-name companies popping up left and right with claims of thousands upon thousands of horsepower and speeds nearing the sound barrier. But, how many of these companies are filling arses with smoke and how many of them really may revolutionize the industry? Well, the southern California company Rice Advanced Engineering Systems and Research (RAESR), a fairly new name to the industry, may just be one of the companies that deliver with their Tachyon Speed electric hypercar that they say will pump out 1,250 horsepower.
RAESR’s main claim to fame is their new Tachyon Speed electric hypercar. First of all, let me say that I love the name of this model. For those that don’t know what a tachyon is, it is a hypothetical term used in physics to describe a particle that will always move at a speed faster than light speed. They first announced the project back in 2012, claiming that it will be powered by 6 direct-drive motors that deliver at least 1,250 horsepower and 3,650 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels of the vehicle. The power source is a 532VDC, 2,650 AMP battery that produces 1.4 MegaWatts peak power. The company estimates that it will be able to reach top speeds over 240 mph, reach 0-60 mph in under 3.0 seconds, and will be able to go 0-120 mph in under 7.0 seconds. The company has not yet revealed the battery range on the track, but says that in the city, they’re able to get over 150 miles out of a full charge.
The impressive hypercar will also consist of a chromium molybdenum tube frame and a mostly-carbon fiber aerodynamic exterior bringing the total projected weight of the car down to less than 3,000 lbs. The exterior of the vehicle was inspired by a jet fighter, similar to the Devel Sixteen that is supposed to make an appearance at this year’s Dubai Motor Show. The environmentally friendly hypercar will also have four non-adjustable front wings and four adjustable wings in the rear for controlled levels of downforce. Claims report that the hypercar will deliver up to 1,000 lbs of downforce at its maximum level, while still delivering approximately 400 lbs of downforce at it’s lower level.
RAESR’s project is most often compared to Rimac’s Concept One hypercar and is said to put up a huge fight in performance if the company is able to deliver on their promises. The company recently unveiled their prototype model of the Tachyon Speed and is still on track to produce the vehicle in the near-future. We definitely hope to see it hit the production line soon!
