The New York City Mayor’s Office, NYC Men Teach, and the Young Men’s Initiative partnered with Shindig to host a video chat conference and series of workshops to discuss the shortage of men of color teaching in the classroom, their importance within the teaching profession, why there’s increased attention on this matter, and the progress the initiative has made thus far.
The event was led by staff from Deputy Mayor Richard Buery’s office. First, there was an orientation for everyone in attendance, then the audience broke into three different workshops running in parallel to discuss more specific components of the city’s work on this initiative.
